Patrice Legro

Patrice Legro, Director, is responsible for planning and executing all aspects of the museum’s implementation.

Her track record of leading large and innovative projects at the National Academies includes positions as Director of the Division on Communication and Special Projects in the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Education, where she expanded communication about educational improvement and built partnerships with informal education providers; and as co-study director for Teaching About Evolution and the Nature of Science—a study that received nationwide attention for its quality and accessibility. Patrice also helped establish the National Academy of Sciences’ Office on Public Understanding of Science after managing the National Science Education Standards Project.

Patrice’s interest in scientific literacy emerged from a decade of work in the international arena. With an educational background in international political economics that focused on science and technology policy, Patrice began her career with an interest in how people (and a country’s support of science education) can drive innovation within a country and around the world.
